Our electrical testing procedure [FAQs]
What is electrical inspection testing and why is it necessary?
Fixed Wire Testing is the testing of wiring outside and inside the fabric of a building. It is a mandatory requirement of the “Electricity at Work Regulations 1989”.
Who will be carrying out the electrical tests?
You can rest assured that all of our fixed wire tests are carried out by competent electricians who have 18th Edition standards and hold a City & Guilds 2391 certificates. There will be at least one fully-qualified, to City & Guilds 2391, engineer on site at all times.
In addition, all engineers who complete testing and inspection will
- Be aware of the dangers and how to avoid them.
- Be happy with their level of training.
- Know what is expected of them.
- Be confident in their ability to complete the job without risk to themselves or others.
- Be provided with all the necessary information to do the job safely.
- Be satisfied with supervision provided.
Does testing involve the powering down of our electrical supply? And if so, how long for?
Yes, the testing process involves testing circuits when they are ‘live’ and when they are ‘dead’. In order to confirm that each circuit is safe, you should expect a brief power-down of every circuit. Individual circuits will be isolated from the supply periodically throughout the works.
What happens if faults are found?
Inspections are recorded & recommendations are made based on BS 7671:2018 compliance. A plan of action can then be formulated and repair works quoted separately. If a fault poses danger to the building or people in it, we will seek authorisation for emergency repairs.
